The CranioSacral System is a physiological system in your animal's body just like their respiratory system and their cardiovascular system, which incorporates the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord. CranioSacral Therapy is a very gentle, touch method of assessing and facilitating this physiological system. The CST approach allows the body to relax and release deep tensions, which in turn facilitates the relief of pain, trauma and dysfunction and improves their body's ability to become and remain healthy and active.
Releasing restrictions within the fascia, cranial & dural tube membrane systems helps to normalize the environment around the brain and spinal cord. This, in turn, facilitates and enhances your horse's body's self-correcting & self-healing ability and in so doing is able to alleviate a wide variety of pain, injury and dysfunction issues. CST facilitates bringing your horse's body back into a state of homeostasis and health.
Every individual and every condition respond uniquely to CranioSacral Therapy. Your horse's response to CST may vary in comparison to that of your friends horse and so the number of sessions can vary widely. Your horse may only need one session or it may need two to three sessions, depending on how it responds. I recommend you schedule 2 sessions initially (1 per month), see how your horse responds and adjust things accordingly.
As things change and shift back to a place of homeostasis, or in simpler terms a better state of equilibrium, you horse may feel some discomfort as their body releases different patterns of restriction. Their body is in the process of reorganizing and will continue to reorganize for the next 36 hours after the session. Give it the chance to do so. Don't do anything strenuous or "new" during that time. Listen to your horse. Let it rest & relax the day of the session.
In addition, I use Reiki, manual therapy techniques and light touch myofascial techniques to open energy lines and relax muscles, allowing them to perform better.
I have had great success in assisting owners to keep their horses, themselves and even their dogs, limber and relaxed throughout their training and competition, which in turn may help reduce the occurrence of muscle cramps, stiffness, soreness and potential injuries. I have also assisted in the rehabilitation of animals under the care of veterinarians to facilitate faster and more productive healing.
Craniosacral Therapy bodywork is an excellent modality to help both you and your horse move more freely and generally feel better and healthier.
